Synopsis

Herbal oils are a popular skin remedy made by herbalists all over the world. They are easy to make and easy to work with. However, there is so much more to learn about herbal oils making than just placing herbs in a jar and pouring oil over them! In this course I will guide you through more advanced methods of herbal oil making. Not only that: Have you ever wondered what exactly are you extracting from herbs when you make a herbal oil? I will explain the chemistry of herbal extracts in detail. I will also unpack the chemistry of various carrier oils and explain how this impacts the extracts, their quality and stability. Finally, I will share how to turn your herbal oils into effective salves, balms and ointments.

Who is it for

The content of this course is aimed at herbal medicine and skin care makers that are both in the beginnings of their learning journey or have prior knowledge of herbal oils making, including qualified or student naturopaths and herbalists. 

Format

Online live masterclass (2 hours). A link will be sent to you prior to the meeting. Recording will be available for 8 weeks after the course. A selection of downloadable digital resources will be shared and I will be available to answer any of your clarifying questions for the 6 weeks following the course.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Karolina "Kaja" Skraskova holds a Masters degree in Pharmacy from the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. During this course Kaja studied not only various forms of chemistry but also pharmaceutical botany, pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical compounding. Kaja further holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Kaja has more than 8 years of experience formulating and making award-winning herbal skin care, using the principles of Galenic formulation. She delivered several invited talks on the topic to naturopathy students at Australian universities. Kaja enjoys teaching qualified naturopaths and herbalists, BHSc students and the broad public at the interface of herbalism and cosmetic science.
