Oily Craft student feedback
top drawer course!
"I really enjoyed how in depth, science based and chronological everything was. Kaja pays so much attention to detail and it was super fun nerding out. I learned a lot and highly recommend this course even if you already have a solid foundation, the material is just so valuable, well organised and presented. "

get clarity on oily topics you have been wondering about
You might have made herbal oils or balms before or have been planning to start experimenting for ages and wondered:

- Are seed oils bad and tallow the best?
- Is herb X suitable for an oil infusion?
- What kind of herbal constituents get extracted during the infusion process?
- Which infusion method will work the best?
- What's with the "intermediary method" of oil infusion - is it really more effective?
- Why are my balms grainy/greasy/melting?
- How do I elevate my herbal salves making?
You can now save yourself hundreds of hours of meticulous research because I have answered all these (and MANY more) questions for you in Oily Craft.
My name is Kaja Skraskova and I am a professional independent researcher (PhD) and a herbalist (MPharm) with over 9 years of herbal skin care manufacturing experience.

FROM SUPERIFICIAL KNOWLEDGE TO DEPTH
HOW IS OILY CRAFT DIFFERENT
There is so much contradictory information about herbal oils available online: Macadamia oil is the best for our skin... Hang on, isn't it tallow? You should never heat your herbal infused oil. Or will heat actually help? ...
Oily Craft helps you raise well above this noisy (mis)information baseline. It delivers high-end technical information, while equipping you with practical skills that set you up for success. It is a delicate mix of meticulously researched details infused with (pun intended) my personal approach and nearly a decade of herbal experience.

Better understanding
"I love your depth of knowledge and how it helps me to better understand why I’m doing something a certain way!"
Sammi Allen - Naturopath, owner of the Nimbin Apothecary

Hello, I am Kaja!
I am a herbalist with a formal background in European-style pharmacy (MPharm) and science (analytical chemistry PhD). I revel in presenting foundational knowledge from practical perspectives. My courses are rooted in traditional herbalism, underpinned by cosmetic science and infused with my direct personal experience.
I am a member of the Australian Society of Cosmetic Chemists and I delivered invited talks at Australian universities on the topic of Herbal Skin Care.
Most importantly, the past 9 years have seen me crafting herbal skin care following the principles of pharmaceutical compounding and traditional herbalism. My herbal skin care has won prestigious industry awards and most importantly helped clients whose skin was going through literal & metaphorical rough patches.
Now I would like YOU to be able to do the same with the confidence both you and your community & clients deserve!

Frequently Asked Questions
Sometimes things don’t click until we hear them explained from a different perspective. As teachers we all have a unique style. While (owing to my science background) my teaching style is more academic, I also have direct practical experience with both, herbalism and cosmetic chemistry. This is how it influences Oily Craft:
- Plenty of my friends and colleagues are amazing chemists to whom I look up to; next to some of them my chemistry knowledge pales in comparison. But I have spent more than 13 years in a close contact with analytical chemistry research and so among herbalists the depth of my chemistry knowledge is quite unique. It allows me to approach herbal skin care making with more chemistry detail and to correct rampant chemistry misinformation.
- I specifically cover the details of the entire axis: botanical oils – herbal oils – herbal balms, unlike many other courses.
- I choose to shed light on controversial topics and questions that typically yield ambiguous answers.
Absolutely! My courses combine knowledge and experience from several disciplines, including pharmaceutical compounding, cosmetic chemistry and herbalism. I pride myself on presenting information from refreshing perspectives and making it relevant for your practice.
No! While previous experience of herbalism or skin care making is advantageous, you don't need a degree in naturopathy or herbalism. Many of my students are home herbalists, making herbal remedies for themselves and their community.
The formats of Full Craft and Oily Craft are different. While Full Craft offers a detailed focus on one particular formulation, Oily Craft aims way broader. It teaches you to formulate oil-based herbal skin care across the entire axis: botanical oils - herbal oils – herbal balms. The course teaches you to think like a both, a herbalist and a cosmetic scientist. It offers plenty of practical theory, cheat sheets and summaries and particularly Modules 2 and 3 are complemented with plenty of photographs detailing all the different methods you will learn about.
Oily Craft is currently not registered for CPD points but that may change in the future.
Yes! You will receive a Certificate of Completion after attending all three classes (or watching their recordings) and completing 3 short quizzes (one per each module).
Yes! You can sign up to any of the modules of Oily Craft separately, although you will save 20% of the combined price of all three modules if you sign for the whole series.
