This class explores the principles of pharmaceutical compounding for the application in herbal skin care making. I will guide you through the principles and worklflow of selecting a fit-for-purpose herbal remedy for the skin.

What is it
This online masterclass is a deep dive into the art & science of choosing fit-for-purpose herbal skin care.
Who is it for
The content of this course is detailed and primarily aimed at skilled medicine makers, qualified or student naturopaths and herbalists. However, even if you are a budding skin care maker, you will leave with plenty of useful information!
Modules

Skin anatomy and physiology in moderate detail.
- Skin absorption of skin care ingredients.
- Dermal dosage forms: their overview, detailed explanation of their basic and advanced characteristics and how these govern the fit-for-purpose selection.
- Herbal extracts and how they fit into the fit-for-purpose selection. (N.B. This will be discussed only briefly; a separate course dedicated fully to herbal extracts is in preparation.)
- Simple workflow for the fit-for-purpose selection of the ideal skin care remedy.
- Practical examples and case studies.
- Generous time for Q&A.
Format
Live online masterclass (2 hours). A link will be sent to you prior to the meeting. Recording will be available for 6 weeks after the course. A selection of digital resources will be shared. I will be available to answer any of your clarifying questions for the 6 weeks following the course.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Karolina "Kaja" Skraskova holds a Masters degree in Pharmacy from the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. During this course Kaja studied not only various forms of chemistry but also pharmaceutical botany, pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical compounding. Kaja further holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Kaja has more than 8 years of experience formulating and making award-winning herbal skin care, using the principles of Galenic formulation. She delivered several invited talks on the topic to naturopathy students at Australian universities. Kaja enjoys teaching qualified naturopaths and herbalists, BHSc students and the broad public at the interface of herbalism and cosmetic science.
