Course content
This module explores the principles of pharmaceutical compounding for the application in the manufacture of topical herbal medicines and herbal skin care. In the first half, you will learn about the skin anatomy & physiology and explore its interactions with skin care ingredients. The second half of the module is devoted to a detailed explanation of the various types and energetics of dermal dosage forms and their suitability for a range of skin conditions. The course presents a practical workflow for the selection of the most appropriate herbal skin care product, you can seamlessly incorporate into your herbal practice. Finally, a selection of case studies and practical examples is presented and you will be given space for Q&A session at the end of the class.

To home / community herbalists, and skin care formulators these courses will provide university-level education within the context of a practical application and in an easy-to-digest engaging manner.

- Skin anatomy.
- Interaction of skin with skin care ingredients.
- Dermal dosage forms: their overview, detailed explanation of their basic and advanced characteristics, energetics and how these govern the selection of fit-for-purpose skin care products.
- Appropriate selection of herbs for particular dosage forms. (N.B. This will be discussed only briefly. A detailed information about herbal extracts is shared in Part 3 if the Herbal Skin Craft: Herbal Extracts in Natural Skin Care.)
- Practical examples and case studies.
- Generous time for Q&A.

Live online masterclass (2 hours). A link will be sent to you prior to the meeting. Recording will be available for 6 months* after the course. A selection of downloadable digital resources will be shared. *Note that participants of the Herbal Skin Craft course have access to the recording for 12 months.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Karolina "Kaja" Skraskova holds a Masters degree in Pharmacy from the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. During this course Kaja studied not only various forms of chemistry but also pharmaceutical botany, pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical compounding. Kaja further holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Kaja has more than 8 years of experience formulating and making award-winning herbal skin care, using the principles of Galenic formulation. She delivered several invited talks on the topic to naturopathy students at Australian universities. Kaja enjoys teaching qualified naturopaths and herbalists, BHSc students and the broad public at the interface of herbalism and cosmetic science.
